Montana: How We Spent Our Time

Image
I had heard Montana was beautiful, but it truly surpassed any and every expectation. When we weren't spending our days at Yellowstone National Park (read about that part of our trip here ), we stayed close to where we were staying in Emigrant, Montana and took in all the big sky country. Emigrant is located smack dab in Paradise Valley- an area between the Absaroka Mountain Range to the east and the Gallatin Mountain Range to the west. I know things are named for a reason- this place was as close to paradise as my eyes have ever seen. It was green, hilly, and mountainous. You could see for miles and miles and miles and the stars?! I've never seen them so bright. Out every single window at our Airnbn rental, there was a gorgeous view and it never ever got old. Why fold laundry inside when you can sit on a deck with this background? Because Emigrant is such a small town (not even 300 people), civilization was pretty far away and nature was our playground. There was so mu

What We Never Travel Without

Image
Traveling, day tripping, sight seeing, and adventuring are huge in the Hundt house! As we prioritize how we spend our time and money, seeing the world is at the tippy tippy top. Because my family is quite like a circus, we have to be really thoughtful and intentional about how we prepare for trips so we can have bring the least amount of things that still get us what we need and also what would make our traveling life easier. I thought I'd share a few things we never leave home without... 1.) Packing Cubes: I am a recent convert to packing cubes over the last year and I don't think I will ever go back. At first, I used packing cubes to consolidate clothes into our suitcases- it really did save space to have things squished into the cubes and it also saved my sanity because things were more organized and I wasn't just throwing pieces of clothing all around trying to find what I was looking for. We have these cubes in several colors in several sizes. Find them here

Ontario, Canada: Some Places to See

Image
It's no secret that my family LOVES Canada. We've seen a lot, but have SO much we still want to see of the second biggest country in the world. In the future, we hope to go way out west to see Vancouver and surrounding areas and way out east to visit Prince Edward Island and Nova Scotia and then everywhere in between: places like Montreal, Quebec City, The Bruce Peninsula, Water Lakes National Park in Alberta, etc, etc, etc.  Canadian adventures will absolutely be a part of Hundt travel plans. So far, we've been able to see a lot of Ontario- it's proximity makes it easy to drive to, which has been great for us. If you live in the midwest, especially Michigan, Ontario is SO close! I wanted to take time to love all over some of my favorite parts hoping to inspire others to cross that Blue Water Bridge in Port Huron or take the bridge/tunnel in Detroit and go explore all the beauty and fun our neighboring country has to offer. Here are some of our most FAVORITE sport

#daytrippin: Savannah, Georgia

Image
When staying in St. Augustine, Florida for spring break, 11:00am was the latest checkout time we could get. If we had begun driving at 11:00am, we would've gotten home around 4:00-4:30am (counting stops for meals and such). That's about the worst time to get home- would people actually go back to sleep or would they be up for the day?? Sleep is always something we worry about when we're away from home. We debated on whether to try and stay around the pool and enjoy the beautiful day, but ultimately decided to leave. Our plan was to drive for a few hours then stop for a late lunch at a playground or something to let the kids burn off some energy for a while before getting back into the car. While driving the route from Michigan to St. Augustine, we pass signs for two cities that have been on my bucket list of places to see for a long time: Charleston, South Caroline and Savannah, Georgia. We had already learned that even though there is a sign for Charleston, it is actua

ENOUGH: What I DID do this summer

Image
It is September 4th.  I have one more day of summer left.  At the end of summer, I always get so pensive about how I spent my time: did I relax enough?  did I give my boys enough experiences?  did I read enough?  write enough?  was I productive enough?  That word enough  keeps popping up as you can see. I know I am the type of person that's more likely to zoom in looking for possible failures and shortcomings rather than zoom in on progress and accomplishment. I tweeted out recently that I needed to go somewhere and ponder if I had _____________ enough  this summer and a fellow educator, who I respect SO much, tweeted back at me: "It will never be 'enough.'  Ponder all you were able to do. We are only human."   #truth. SOOOOOO.... This blog will be about what I DID do this summer... no mention of where I fell short; no mention of things I didn't accomplish, didn't finish; no mention of the stuff I let fall by the wayside (like how this is my first

Summer 2014

I sit here embarrassed writing this.... It's almost Halloween and I haven't blogged since July?!?!? I'm not surprised to be in this predicament... once school started... forget about it.  Looking at my lack of blogging in a positive way, I was too busy experiencing life rather than writing about it over these last few months.  That's what I'll say to make myself feel better :)  Anyway, here are some highlights (and a couple of cute pictures) from our magnificent summer. At the end of May, as Josh and I celebrated 10 years of dating, he got me a sweet new professional camera.  This started my summer too of experimenting with being a better photographer.  JUNE: June wrapped up my first year as a part-time teacher.  I know that my paycheck is smaller and I know my actual face time at school is less, but it sure does feel like I'm still doing the same amount of work. I was moving classrooms for the 88th time and Katie and I were also asked to teach lang
