Ontario, Canada: Some Places to See

Image
It's no secret that my family LOVES Canada. We've seen a lot, but have SO much we still want to see of the second biggest country in the world. In the future, we hope to go way out west to see Vancouver and surrounding areas and way out east to visit Prince Edward Island and Nova Scotia and then everywhere in between: places like Montreal, Quebec City, The Bruce Peninsula, Water Lakes National Park in Alberta, etc, etc, etc.  Canadian adventures will absolutely be a part of Hundt travel plans. So far, we've been able to see a lot of Ontario- it's proximity makes it easy to drive to, which has been great for us. If you live in the midwest, especially Michigan, Ontario is SO close! I wanted to take time to love all over some of my favorite parts hoping to inspire others to cross that Blue Water Bridge in Port Huron or take the bridge/tunnel in Detroit and go explore all the beauty and fun our neighboring country has to offer. Here are some of our most FAVORITE sport...

Preston Huron: Months 5 and 6

Image
Preston continues to add a lot of joy and sunshine into our lives.  He is, in general, a happy, laid-back baby who LOVES to move and learn. Even though Preston has a super chill personality, I am noticing that he, like his brothers, does not want to be still... ever.  These past couple of months, we've watched him be so bound and determined to figure out how to move himself around.  He is an expert roller now and although he can sit for short periods of time, he has no interest in practicing such a skill when he can work on how to crawl instead.  He has not mastered how to officially crawl during his fifth and sixth month, but can get on his knees, wobble back and forth, and face plant in a forward direction.  He repeats this and is able to move from one place to another.  None of my other children have done this, but it sure works for him.  It will be any minute now.  When we try to sit him on our lap, he wants to fling himself around.  Wh...

Hundts in TORONTO

Image
We have grandiose plans to be a family who travels. Toronto is one of our very favorite cities.  In fact, and this may be shocking to some of you, we'd MUCH rather go there than Chicago... like hands down.  Did you know it's a bit less than five hours away?  With less horrible traffic?  We didn't either- you're welcome. We absolutely love the walkability of the city- particularly the PATH, which is an underground walkway so that even in bad weather, you can still walk the city.  The people are kind, friendly, polite, and helpful (as Canadians are stereotypically), it is calm and doesn't feel too fast-paced, there is plenty to do and see, the traffic is manageable, the food is sensational, and it has a very European feel.  There is also access to Lake Ontario, a flatiron, a Little Italy (which is essential for this gal when in big cities) Dundas Square (which is like Time's Square), and a beautiful mix of old and new. Toronto's Little Italy Josh and...

PRESTON HURON: Month 2

Image
Preston's second month seems like a big one!  I think part of this reason is that we've finally gotten into our groove, our new normal.  The first month, the month of May, had a lot of visitors, the busyness of the end of the school year for our older sons, and the addition of Josh being home a lot more as he took time off of work. This second month has been mostly me and the four kids at home all day together.  That adjustment, while busy and difficult at times, has been a lot more seamless than #mycrazy had ever let it be in my head when I was anxious about it.  I think we get out a little less and watch a little more TV than I would like, but we are making this four-kids-five-and-under thing work! What We Learned About Preston: Even though Preston has had to be very flexible and accommodating of his three older brothers and their activities, needs, and schedules, he is very much his own person.  When I am just feeling like I can predict when he might h...
