A Sample Schedule

Since Nolan and Judah have been born, lots of people ask me what our day is like.  I thought I might publish a sample of what a day in the life of the Hundt  Twins plus Mom might look like ;) I must put a disclaimer in here....this is only the schedule as I've known it for the last few weeks.  I thought I'd better post this soon before this schedule changes! Between 5:00-6:30am ~ Boys are fed After feeding (6:30-7:30am)~ Try to put boys back to sleep...sometimes this goes real well and both boys sleep in their bassinets for about 2 hours.  Other times, they are in and out of sleep, other times, boys end up doing some snuggling with Mom.  Hopefully Mom can get at least another hour of sleep during this time! Between 9:00-10:00am~ Boys are fed After feeding~ Nolan and Judah are usually super alert during this time.  We play and lots of smiles are exchanged.  Then they are changed, we play some music, and usually read books. Between 10:30-11:30am...

Third Month: Reflections

Image
My babies are a quarter of a year old.  I can't believe how fast the time goes and how much changes in a mere 31 days! Things we Learned About Nolan Gerard: The biggest way that we've gotten to know our oldest son (that is so funny to say, but true ya know) this month is how much he likes to be outdoors.  We knew this before so if he was inconsolable, for example, we would take him on a stroller ride or walk up and down the driveway and it usually helped.  This month, though, this future outdoors men really blossomed.  When at my parents' cottage, we took the boys out to Lake Huron and put their tiny little feet in the water.  Nolan LOVED it.  He was kicking for more.  He sat in the shade fully content and in general just had a calm about him when he was out in nature.  Nolan also made a lot of progress gripping toys or his binky on his own. He's become a little lazy, for lack of a better word, during tummy time and uses it as an excus...

God is Good. Period.

Yesterday, my family was having a lovely little Sunday.  In the afternoon, Josh had gone on a long run and I was hanging out with the boys.  I fed them, changed them, read some books with them, and then snuggled with two cranky boys on the couch.  Shortly after Josh got back, I had two little angels sleeping, one on each side.  By this time, it was after noon and I was STARVING!  So as not to disturb the boys, Josh made me a bagel and cream cheese and I ate it, somehow, in between the boys on my lap.  Then this dawned on me.. I was wearing clothes from the night before (so I could get ready in a flash for church and so I didn't have to think about it), I was unshowered and un made up, and was trying to eat my lunch made for me by my dripping-in-sweat husband after his seven mile run, while two babies were drooling as they slept against each of my shoulders and I don't think I have ever been more happy and more appreciative in my whole life....

Is My Cat the Baby Whisperer?!

Image
Our cat, Primrose, does not sleep with us much.  In fact, since the babies were born, we've only let her sleep in our bed two times.  We've been worried that she might try to jump in their bassinets or something when we are fast asleep.  Upon reflection, however, these two times could possibly coincide with two HUGE milestones in our twins' sleep patterns... The first time she slept in bed with us was the first time the twins slept from an evening feeding of around 10pm until around 4 or 4:30am without waking up.  They have mostly been doing that ever since.  They'll have an evening feeding between 9-10:30pmish and then sleep till between 4-5:30am.  We've been extremely happy with this pattern and have been considering that a really really good night's sleep. Last night, we let Prim sleep with us for the second time.  I am sitting here writing this at 7:18am because our boys are STILL SLEEPING!  They ate last night at 9:50pm and...

Second Month: Reflections

The babies are two months old! WOW! Things we Learned About Nolan Gerard Hundt: This month, Nolan has been a lot better about trying to sooth himself, which has helped in his level of crying.  You can tell he wants to suck something on his fingers, but he's not sure what yet.  So far, he just tries to put his entire fist in his mouth.  He continues to be very animated: his emotions are strong.  The more difficult side of this is that if he is mad, he is M-A-D, but the better more positive side of this is that when he is happy, oh my gosh is he happy!  He loves to smile and smiles a ton at people!  One thing I could do without is that if he gets very upset, he will hold his breath and little when he cries.  My sister Laura used to do that and I remember her turning blue even so I'm not happy to be seeing this behavior.  It freaks Josh and I both out. Luckily, it is short, but still, no thanks!    No...

Things I Can't Live Without as a New Mom of Twins

Image
10. Bum Genius Diapers: At the advice and convincing of my teaching partner, Josh and I have embarked on the fun exciting world of reusable diapers.  Although the cost is large up front, we have already saved money over using disposable diapers.  We have a pretty good schedule of how and when we wash and it's been super manageable!  These diapers are stupendous with tons of snaps to fit babies until they're potty trained.  These are not the old cloth diapers with pins.  I would highly recommend using them!  9. Knowing Nurses:   Between my mom and friend Corey, I know I can call either of them and they can answer just about any question I might have.  This is invaluable for a new mom!  8. Chicco Double Stroller:   Our stroller is how I get out of the house every day!  It fits our Chicco car seats and has great storage and cup holders too ;)  7. Wubbanubs: These are pacifiers that have a stuffed animal attached to t...

Things I Couldn't Live Without During Pregnancy

Image
I attribute a lot of my success both mentally and physically to certain things that I thought I would share in case it might help others.  Here is what I couldn't live without while I was pregnant: My DVD player:  When you're up in the middle of the night for almost SIX MONTHS before the babies are born, you need something to occupy your time.  I rewatched so many favorite TV shows in the wee hours.  I know this helped me get onto our twins' schedule once they were born! A body pillow:  I starting having trouble sleeping around 18 weeks and by the end, even switching sides of a huge ordeal.  The body pillow was the only reason I was able to sleep at all I think.  Pure Protein Bars : 20 grams of protein in these bad boys!  Isopure protein shakes (dutch chocolate to be exact): Put two scoops of this liquid gold with two cups of milk and presto!  66 grams of protein before eating or drinking a single other thing.  Obviously my 8l...
