Preston Huron: 15 Months
Our littlest baby is growing and changing in an instant! He had such a wonderful summer being a year old and just wanted to learn and experience and touch everything around him. Is he REALLY sort of kind of almost a year and a half?!?!?!
What We Learned About Preston:
This kid is friendly, smiley, and extremely adaptable. His three big brothers help make us a busy crew and he spends a lot of time in the car carting Nolan, Judah, and Carter back and forth to a lot of things. Preston is a gem on day trips and adventures and travels, which has made it smoother to spend so much time at the cottage, up north, or places like Michigan's Adventure. He doesn't always get to take his two naps, doesn't always get fed when he'd like to and he just rolls with it. We thank him all the time and I hope as he continues to comprehend what people are saying, he begins to comprehend that. We are so grateful for his laid-back nature.
Although he is just about the sweetest baby in the world, we are starting to see, especially in the last few weeks, the beginnings of some tantruming toddler behavior. He HATES getting things taken away from him and because he wants to touch anything NOT age appropriate, it kinda happens to him a lot. He sits right down on his butt, then lays on the floor on his back and rolls around as he whines. All of laugh, which isn't the best response, but it's too cute and funny not to do it.
He loves to read books... SO MUCH. He walks around with favorites like Goodnight Gorilla and will drop right into your lap wanting you to read to him. Preston is also into climbing, standing on things (like laundry baskets, tubs, and in his high chair), tending to our cat, Prim, being outside, and walking as far as he can wherever he can until someone stops him or puts up a boundary (like closing a gate).
Preston comprehends so much of what we say to him. I am still in shock when I say something like, "Where is your blanket?" and he walks right over to pick it up. Or, "Do you want some water?" and he follows me right to the sink and reaches out with his hands and starts whining. It is so obvious that he knows much of what people are saying in our house.
Because I'm crazy, I have been wishing he'd be talking a bit more. He can make more noises and weird sounds than any of his brothers ever did, but I am ready to have him use more words to communicate his needs. He's super stubborn about not using much sign language, even though he knows several signs. Preston honestly would like to make whines, noises, and grunts to tell people what is up with him. WHY IS EVERYONE IN MY HOUSE A STUBBORN TAURUS!?
I know I need not to freak out and as I sit here and list all the words he CAN say (or can sort of say) like:
meow (or it's actually a noise for ANY animal and actually ANY statue)
Mama
Dada
Grammy/Grandma (he says gaga)
Papa
Judah
Go Green
The End
Uh oh
Okay
Bye Bye
It is clear he is making progress in that too.
The cutest thing is if you ask him, "Preston, how are you?" He will respond with, "Good."
Preston LOVES to eat... a lot. He was going through a bit of a rough patch where he got picky for a couple of weeks, but is back to eating seriously anything.
Because I'm taking the year off from teaching, he is still breastfeeding just a little, which is a few weeks later than his brothers went, but we are slowly dwindling that down. I'm going to SO miss that quiet time with just him and I before bed where he's snuggly and holding my hand while he nurses.
Summer was challenging, crazy, busy, and absolutely magical. I was so lucky to be able to spend time with him, Nolan, Judah, and Carter at home. I can't believe how fast it all went and how fast our baby is growing.
